Summer Reading Recommendation 01
>> June 14, 2009

This is a cool book I bought two weeks ago from Jareer.
Some excerpts from the book:
"Remember your third grade self?
One thing you really had going for you was an unrestricted imagination. When people asked (and they often did), "What do you want to be when you grow up?" you had a ready answer. Sometimes more than one. Back then, your response could change daily- and wildly- from veterinarian to talk show host to astronaut. There were no limits to your imagined future ot to the many things you could be and do.
Somewhere along the line, the focus of our dreams downshifts from what's imaginable to what's attainable--from what's fun to what's practical, from what's risky to what's responsible. Ambitions of playing in the NFL are dulled by playing (and losing) intramural college games, the desire to learn how to fly never gets off the ground, and aspirations to become a painter are put on hold for a job that pays. Life goes on, but not necessarily in the direction you had hoped. Or it goes on so predictable that you forget what it was like to imagine the unimaginable for yourself. You forget how to dream.
Learn New Things. Page: 11
Children have an innate curiosity about the world. They're always asking "why?" and " How come?" and questioning things you stopped wondering about a long time ago (like "Why does a leopard have spots?" or "How come I have ten toes?"). Kids have the right idea. It's time to recapture some of that youthful curiosity by learning something new everyday, every week, or just every once in a while. Learning new things isn't about getting smarter, it's about being interested (and more interesting). So enlist a friend to school you in the art of juggling, ask an adult to teach you the rules of bridge, or buy a book on the solar system. You can learn anywhere, at any time, as long as you keep your mind, your eyes, and your ears wide open."
Note-to-self: Don't ever stop dreaming.
